dissertation defense of Fr. Jaroslaw Wąsowicza

On 9 May 2011 in the building of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun was a public defense of the doctoral thesis of Fr. Jaroslaw Wąsowicza, written under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Richard Sudzińskiego. Dissertation topic was "independent youth movement in Gdansk in the years 1981 -1989." Commission's Division of Historical Sciences of NCU, to which the defense held the chair prof. dr hab. Sophia Waszkiewicz.



After welcoming graduate student, and numerous members of the public defense of dissertation participants, Fr. Wąsowicza, prof. Waszkiewicz gave voice promoter, a doctoral student who presented the figure. He stressed in particular its current involvement in the scientific and social. He listed all the major publications of Fr. Wąsowicza, who is the author or editor of more than 10 books. Professor Richard Sudziński noticed that some of them, like "White - Green Solidarity, lived to see the numerous scientific reviews. On past achievements is also composed of over 50 scientific articles, 120 reports, reviews, articles and more than 500 popular science publications. The promoter also mentioned all the research projects of the Institute of National Remembrance in which a graduate student took an active part and the prizes and medals awarded to Fr. Wąsowiczowi for hitherto scientific activities.

Then Fr. Jaroslaw Wasowicz autoreferat presented their work, and spoke the reviewers of the study: prof. Igor Hałagida from the Gdansk University and prof. Mirosław Golon from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, which is also the director of the Gdansk branch of the Institute of National Remembrance. Both reviewers found work as innovative and introducing into circulation a lot of new scientific findings. Professor Hałagida summarize your review stressed that "The author is a researcher has a huge dynamic (and diverse) of the acquis. His scientific and social activity also provides a well of him as a vigorous and active popularyzatorze history. " However, Mr. Golon professor in the summary of his review noted that "thanks to the work of Fr. mgra J. Wąsowicza received the original author's work which attempt to present the history of the "youth of Solidarity in Gdansk, how to determine the independent youth movements in the eighties. This is an attempt extremely attractive, because the author managed to capture a number of different strands of activity of young people and introduce them very diligently. Has also made efforts to make the most critically examine the materials available, including in order to avoid creating non-existent heroes. " Both reviewers postulated as early as possible to print the work and report it to the contest organized by the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk for the best work outlining the history of public opposition in Poland in the years 1976-1989.

After reading the reviews, there was a debate in which there are also a few questions for a doctoral student. Wasowicz priest briefly responded first to the review, later also to the questions that have died from the floor.
Next President prof. Sophia Waszkiewicz closed part of a public defense of the doctoral dissertation. Faculty Committee at a secret meeting, after discussion and vote unanimously adopted the defense of the doctoral dissertation of Fr. Jaroslaw Wąsowicza. Result of the vote was read publicly in the presence of doctoral students, and all participants in the defense. Then the professor. Waszkiewicz reported that at the next Council of the Faculty of History GCM requested to give Fr. Jaroslaw Wąsowiczowi degree Ph.D. in history.
